2015 Next Gen Fellowship Program for Sub-Saharan African Countries

Carnegie Corporation of New York is currently funding three competitive fellowship opportunities for career social science faculty of African intellectuals working on peace, security and other development disciplines. The disciplines include; the doctoral dissertation research fellowship, doctoral dissertation completion fellowship and doctoral dissertation proposal fellowship.

Scholarship Type: scholarships for PhD research level courses.

Selection Criteria

Strong proposals from applicants will show clear and succinct descriptionsof their projects and their significance. These Proposals should display a thorough understanding of relevant social science literature that applicants will engage with as well as the methodologies necessary to the project. In addition, applicants should clearly demonstrate all proposed activities that are both feasible and timely. All such proposals will be carefully evaluated for these criteria by a renowned independent, international committee of leading scholars coming from a range of social science disciplines.

Eligibility

 *The doctoral dissertation research fellowship: All applicants to the doctoral dissertation research fellowship should be citizens of and reside in a sub-Saharan African country while holding a recognized faculty position at any accredited college or university in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, or Uganda

*The doctoral dissertation completion fellowship: All applicants must be citizens of and reside in a sub-Saharan African country while holding a current faculty position at an accredited college or university in Ghana, Nigeria, South Africa, Tanzania, or Uganda. Applicants for any of the funding opportunities offered through this program must have a master’s degree and be working toward completion of the doctoral degree.

Number of Scholarships offered: About 45 scholarships are offered each year.

Duration of Scholarship Program: Doctoral fellowship program is usually 9-12 months
