The City University of New York (CUNY): Rankings and Application Process

Founded sometime in 1847, The City College of New York (CCNY) is currently the oldest University in the city. The campus sits on 35 acres of grass and tree land in upper Manhattan. In Fall 2018, it enrolled 16,257 students in graduate, masters, PhD & undergraduate programs in Liberal Arts and Science, Architecture, Engineering & Biomedic Education. CUNY has invested in two new Science buildings. Sometime ago it established a new Architecture building. The Colin Powell School for Civic and Global Leadership was afterwards inaugurated in 2012. CCNY is equally a very diverse university in America. In Fall 2018, about 3548 languages other than English were actively spoken and used at CCNY. In Fall 2018 there were 195 in the world – CCNY has students from 98.8% of them. In Fall 2017 CCNY officially opened the CUNY Medical School. The College ranks among the top 12 nationally per graduates who have gone on to obtain doctorates and is internationally renowned for the research activities of its faculty.

Applying

When submitting an application to CUNY–City College, it’s important to note the application deadline is on a rolling basis. The application fee at CUNY–City College is roughly $65. Scores for either the ACT or SAT test should be submitted by Aug. 15. It is a selective institution, with an acceptance rate of 38 percent.

Academic Life

The student-faculty ratio at CUNY–City College stands at 16:1, and the school runs about 33 percent of its classes with fewer than 20 students. Some of the most popular majors at CUNY–City College are: Engineering; Psychology; Social Sciences; Biological and Biomedical Sciences; and Visual and Performing Arts to mention a few. The average freshman retention rate, which is a solid indication of student satisfaction, is about 87 percent.

Campus Services

CUNY–City College runs a number of student services, including tutoring programs, placement services, day care, health service. CUNY–City College equally offers campus safety and security services such as 24-hour foot and vehicle patrols, late night transport/escort service, 24-hour emergency telephones, lighted pathways/sidewalks, controlled dormitory access (key, security card, etc.). Also note that alcohol is not allowed for students of legal age at CUNY–City College.

How to Apply

STEP 1: Determine your College Choices and Academic Programs

You are able to apply to multiple campuses via a single application. Do well to figure out your college choices and academic programs before beginning your application. Remember to review the Admission Profile for last year’s admitted class.The priority Application deadline for Fall is usually February 1 and Spring is September 15.

STEP 2: Create your CUNY Application Account or Log into your CUNYFIRST Account

Inorder to do this, please visit the CUNY Application page to get started. We encourage you to complete the application via a desktop computer and not on your mobile device or tablet device.

STEP 3: Carefully fill out the Application Form

You will be given several pages of questions to complete. Take time to complete the questions on each page.

REMINDER: Freshmen applicants are able to select up to 6 college choices, while Transfer applicants can do up to 4 college choices. Regardless, all applicants will receive an admission decision from each college shown on their application.

STEP 4: Pay your Online Application Fee

Once you’ve completed each section of the application, you will be taken to a page to pay your application fee. The application fee is about $65 for Freshman applicants and $70 for Transfer applicants.

STEP 5: Submit Supporting Documents

All supporting documents should be submitted to the University Application Processing Center. For this, you’ll need your CUNYfirst ID number (an 8 digit number) when submitting additional documents.
