Recently, Research Infosource ranked this university as the 20th most intensive research based institution in Canada. That explains why at the Memorial University of Newfoundland, a substantial portion of the research conducted is marine research. Research is carried out by schools at the St. John’s campus, Grenfell campus, and the Marine Institute. There are equally centers of marine learning. These centers carry out research work in aquaculture, sustainable fishery, safety, and technology. This university recently partnered with University of Prince Edward Island and Dalhousie University to open the Ocean Frontier Institute.
