    Unknown to international students, Romania has a rich and long standing history in low tuition medical studies and health care in general.

    Infact,the Romanian health care system has been there since the early 1700’s. When we talk about well known activists of medicine in Romania, we talk about George Emil Palade, the Nobel Prize winner of 1974 in Physiology or Medicine,who was born in Iași, in North-Eastern Romania, while Nicolae Paulescu, the famous name behind insulin, was born in Bucharest, Romania.

    At this time, medicine in Romania is a major subject across Europe and its environs. Romanian doctors are adored and appreciated all over the world and Romanian medical Universities continue to attract thousands of international medical University students annually.

    Medical admission requirements

    Please note that admission to medical universities in Romania is based mainly on eligibility. Only local and international students who are competitive enough are selected.

    Your Application must contain copies of the following documents:

    • Authentic certificate and transcript:
      • Your certified copies of School leaving certificate/High school diploma/Baccalaureate diploma or National examinations, and transcript/diploma supplement (if applicable) – for undergraduate programs;
      • Certified copies of high school transcripts showing grades from 9 to 12 (or GCSE);
      • Certified copies of your Higher Education diploma and transcript/diploma supplement (if applicable) – for postgraduate (Master) applicants or PhD programs;
      • Duly certified copies of academic transcripts translated into Romanian, English, French or Germany, depending on which university you choose to attend, plus Analytical Program  for applicants who desire the recognition of partial studies done in some other university (transfer student),
    • Certified copy of your Birth Certificate and the original;
    • A medical report showing that you do not have any contagious diseases or any other diseases incompatible with the medical profession and so prove your state of health;
    • A certified copy of your Passport;
    • Six passport photos should be attached

    You should also include an International recognized Language certificate, except applicants who hail from countries where the official language is the  language is the language of instruction . Please note that this certificate can be gotten from the university after passing successfully a test before the enrolment.

    Applicants who possess diplomas issued in Italy, Greece, Spain, Portugal and Cyprus are expected to obtain an Apostille from the Authorities of the country that issued the certificate.

    On the other hand, diplomas issued in countries which are not part of the  Hague Convention must all be authenticated by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the issuing country, and the Embassy of Romania present in your country.

    Medical admission requirements for EEA or Suisse Students

    The process and conditions of application for students from UE/ EEA or Suisse Confederation into Romanian Medical Universities are the same for Romanian Students, including the tuition fees. They can sit for entrance examination and are granted full scholarship if you speak Romanian language.

    EU/EEA students can equally be admitted to medical universities in Bulgaria as self-sponsoring students.  The medical university admission of self-financing students is in general by application file selection. Some medical schools organize entrance to test your knowledge of chemistry and biology.

    Medical admission requirements for non – EEA or Suisse Students

    As with the one above, non – EEA or Suisse applicants to medical universities in Romania are accepted on the basis of competitive application.

    As competition to enter a faculty of medicine is intense, it is important that applicants do their best to fully meet the entry requirements of each faculty of medicine to which they apply. The applicant’s high school certificate and eventually the type of pre-medical undergraduate degree and institution of study should not stop you from applying to any medical school, provided that all academic prerequisites of a given university are fully met. Not only should applicants do their best to meet all academic prerequisites, it is also important to keep in mind all deadline dates. Generally, an application will be ignored if it comes after deadline dates. While incomplete application files are evaluated and rejected.

    Medical University tuition fees in Romania range  from 5000 to 9000 Euro/year, depending on the faculty and where the student hails from.

    A few medical universities will afford opportunities to Medical university students from EU, EEA and Suisse of passing a medical university entrance exam in English and paying reduced tuition. Medical students who are interested in saving money should contact us as soon as possible so we can give them further information about entrance exam.

    Note that for the first year, medical students from outside of EU, EEA and Switzerland, have to pay medical university tuition cost at once before the get student visa, and for the next year it can be paid it two or tree times according to university directives.
