    Capilano University is a public training-based institution at 2055 Purcell Way, North Vancouver, BC V7J 3H5, British Columbia, Canada. Capilanou is a popular study abroad destination for most students.

    The University named after Chief Joe Capilano; a prominent Squamish Nation leader of the people of Coast Salish.

    Considering the need for a public institution to serve the local communities, Capilano University got established in 1968 by local schools and the residents of Howe Sound and North Shore.
    The University has a regional campus a Sechelt, which serves the Sunshine Coast communities and their campuses mainly serves the ancestral territories of the Lil’wat, Squamish, Musqueam and Sechelt nations.

    The University’s enrollment at the time o establishment(1968) was 784 students but available records as of the year 2016 shows the student enrollment in the University was about 11,000 students per year(4,000 students in non-credit courses and 7,000 students in credit programs) and figures at the moment posits that the University has a total of 9,024 students spanning across 2,904 full-time students, 4,671 part-time students, 983 International students and 466 Indigenous
    students.

    With over 100 programs and courses of study, the University offers twelve (12) undergraduate degree programs in the following disciplines:

    The University also offers Executive Education and Continuing Studies to thousands of students each year in their non-credit courses and preparatory courses in line with educational and career goals including:

    – English for Academic Purpose(EAP).

    HISTORY:
    Capilano Universty came into existence through a referendum conducted in 1968 by the school boards and residents of the North Vancouver, Howe Sound and West Vancouver to decide the need for a college for the North Shore. The Provincial Government granted them permission after submissions made by the residents of the North Shore and on September 10,1968, Capilano University commenced operations with 784 students in attendance at a small building at West Vancouver Secondary school.
    The Capilano College Foundationn formed in 1970 to overlook the bursaries and scholarships of students and construction began on the Lynnmour area in the North Vancouver campus of the University. Three years after(in 1973), the 13.76 hectare (24-acre) permanent campus of the University in the Lynnmour area of North Vancouver opened with 1,965 students in attendance and opened as well was the Original Library building of the University. The same year, the University established in Squamish, a regional campus intended to serve the Squamish Mount Currie, Whistler and Pemberton communities of the Howe Sound communities

    The Sunshine Coast campus at Sechelt opened in 1977 to serve the communities of Sunshine Coast.
    The Arbutus building at the North Vancouver campus opened in 1976; the Fir building opened in 19820; the Horticulture, Cedar and Sportsplex buildings were completed in 1982; construction of a new library to replace the former in 1985 and in 1996, the Birch building at the North Vancouver campus got completed along the Child Care Centre.

    Currently, the University serves about 7,000 students in its credit programs and 4,000 students in its non-credit programs and has about 785 employees.
    It has several affiliations including:

    – The Canadian Bureau for International Education (CBIE)
    – Canadian University Press (CUP)
    – Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU).
    The University is presently under the leadership of Paul Dangerfield (President).

    CAMPUSES:
    The main campus of the University is at 2055 Purcell Way in the North Vancouver district of North Shore. It is about a 20-minute drive from the downtown of Vancouer and has majority of the University’s programs offered in it.
    Its other campus at Sechelt got established to serve the Sunshine Coast community.

    According to the World University Ranking for Canada, Capilano University ranked 82 and ranked 68 under the UniRank.com ranking for Canadian Universities.

    ARTS OR SCIENCES REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENTS FROM OTHER PROVINCES:
    Intending students within the provinces of: Ontario, Quebec, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Saskatchewan, Alberta/ Northwest territories and Nunavut are to have their admission average calculated using the required senior
    English courses and the two (2) best academic courses. The requirements for each of the provinces vary:

    1. Alberta/Northwest territories and Nunavut:
    Applicants to the University within this province are to supply the evidence of their grade 12 academic results which should include at least three five-credit courses including:
    – English Language Arts 30-1
    – Two other courses selected from: Chemistry 30, French 30, Social Studies 30, Aboriginal studies 30, Italian 30/30s, Latin 30, Tilcho Yati 25, Spanish 30/30s, Japanese 30, South Slavey 30, Computer Science, Biology 30, Mathematics 31, Advanced Level CTS(5 Credits), German 31, Pure Maths 30, Physics 30, Science 30, Ukranian Language Arts 30.
    The admission average for this province is on English Language Arts 30-1 and the two (2) best courses in the second group.

    2. Manitoba:
    Admission requirements includes:
    – Submission of evidence of completing academic program and at least, three courses from:
    – English Language Arts 40s and
    – Two other courses from:
    Biology 40s, German 40s, Economics 40s, Portuguese 40s, Deutsch 40s, Spanish 40s, Icelandic 40s, Italian 40s, Western Civilization 40s, World Issues 40s, Geography 40s, Physics 4ms.
    *Admission for this Province is on English Language Arts 40s and two best courses in the second group.

    3. ONTARIO: Applicants of the University from this Province must give evidence of completing their Ontario Grade 12 graduation, along:
    – ENG4U and
    – 2 4u/m courses selected from:
    Biology (SBI4U), Chemistry (SCH4U), Physics (SPH4U), Latin (LVLCU), Canadian and World Politics (CPW4U), Earth and Space Science (SES4U), Canadian Geography (GW4U) and other courses.

    *Admission from this Province will be on English 4U and two courses from group two.

    TRANSFER STUDENTS:
    Students who had completed their 12 or more Credits academic program at an acceptable College or University will get admission in the Arts and Sciences programs of the University. The transfer students will get their Registration Time Ticket using their
    most recent GPA from their transferred institution (College or University).

    ARTS OR SCIENCES: BRITISH COLUMBIA
    Prospective students from the British Columbia Secondary School are to give their Grade 12 graduation or its equal with a minimum grade point average of 2.0 amounting to 60% on English 12 or English 12 First Peoples and two Grade 12 courses from any of the
    following:
    – Accounting 12 or Financial Accounting 12
    – Applications of Mathematics 12
    – Biology 12, Calaculus 12, Applications of Physics 12, Comparative Civilization 12, English Literature 12, Foundation of Mathematics 12.

    ENGLISH LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS:
    English Language is the official language used in the University and as such, prospective students are to meet up with the following requirements in English.
    Specifically, when the applicant’s first language is not English, the applicant has to undergo any of the following English Proficiency Tests:
    – Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) with a minimum of 560 (paper-based test scores) and 83 (Internet-based scores)
    – English Language Assessment Test (ELA) with a score of 145
    – Pearson Test of English with a score of 56
    – Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with overall scores of 6.5
    – Canadian Academic English Language Assessment Test (CAEL) with a score of 40.

    However, the English Language requirements can alternatively be met through the following:
    1. Advanced Placement in English language/composition or English Literature/composition with a minimum score of 4.

    2. International Baccalaureate English Language (Grade A Higher Level) with a minimum score of 5.
    3. Four or more years full-time education in English Language in Canada or another country that uses English as the official language.
    4. Completion of a four-year degree program of study in English from any other following countries:
    Angulla, Barbados, Botswana, Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana, Uganada, Zambia, Trinidad and Tobago, South Africa, Sierra Leone, Dominica, Fiji, Gibrattar, Jamaica, Zimbabwe and other countries that uses English as their official language.

    ADMISSION PERIODS:
    The University operates a trimester academic calendar( three terms): Fall, Spring and Summer terms. Each of the term runs for 15 weeks, the last/concluding exams for the term inclusive.

    ACCOMODATION:
    Capilano University Residence(CapU Residence) at Dollarton Highway serves as home to about 250 students and is composed of three residences:
    Seymour Hall
    Grouse Hall and
    Congress Hall.
    The CapU Residence has various options ranging from Single Occupancy to Apartment Style.
    Each room in the residence excluding the Apartment style rooms, includes:
    – 2 twin size mattresses
    – 2 desks with built-in shelving and lockable drawer
    – 2 closets
    – 2 desk chairs
    – 2 twin size beds with drawer storage.

    TUITION:
    The tuition fees of the University includes the Surcharge and the Standard tuition though some courses and programs have some specialized fees which varies from the Standard tuition.
    The Standard tuition fee of the University are:
    – Canadian Citizens/ Permanent Resident: $127.71 per credit

    – International students: $572.00 per credit.
    * All fees are in Canadian Dollars (CAD).

    International students pay a reduced rate of $464.00(CAD) for all EAP courses excluding EAP 101.
