    Founded sometime in 1965, Simon Fraser University is a renowned public tertiary institution based in the urban setting of the large town of Burnaby (population ranges between 50,000-249,999 inhabitants), British Columbia.     What are the Documents Required for Admission?

    An official document/transcript:

    • This has to be  issued directly from the educational institution in a sealed envelope
    • It has to bear the original institutional seal, stamp, or signature
    • Must be in the original language of instruction

    The institution accepts electronic transcripts sent directly from the following institutions: 

    • Capilano University
    • Douglas College
    • Fraser International College
    • Kwantlen University
    • Langara College
    • University of Fraser Valley
    • Vancouver Island University 

    Do well to order the transcript from your institution once you have submitted an application for admission to SFU. The office uploads the official electronic transcripts once per week (usually on Fridays).

    Please note that photocopies, notarized copies or personal copies of documents are not acceptable and could cause delays with the processing of your application. Thus, only official documents should be accepted. If need be, official English translations may be asked for and will be returned to you accordingly.

    English Language Requirement

    English language is the official language of instruction at SFU. All applicants, regardless of country of origin or citizenship status, are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the English language prior to admission. Competence will need to be shown in all four of the following core skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing.

    -You’ll need to show completion of the last three (3) years of full-time secondary school education in English in Canada
    -You’ll need to show completion of a three unit English (ENGL) course or a certified W (writing intensive) program for which SFU gives transfer credit, with a minimum grade of C-
    -Lastly, completion of the last four (4) years of full-time secondary school education in English at a recognized international school in a country in which the primary language of instruction is not English

    Simon Fraser University Rankings

    Using stats from the 2019 Academic Ranking of World Universities rankings, the university ranked 301–400 in the world and 13–18 in Canada. The 2020 Times Higher Education World University Rankings for example,placed Simon Fraser 251–300 globally, and 11–14 in Canada. The 2020 QS World University Rankings placed the university 314th in the world and thirteenth in Canada In U.S. News & World Report 2019 global university rankings, the university came 288th, and 12th in Canada . Also in Maclean’s 2019 rankings, the university came first in the comprehensive university category, and ninth in the reputation ranking for top rated Canadian universities.Although Simon Fraser University opted out from participation in Maclean’s graduate survey since 2006, it equally ranked.

    Simon Fraser equally achieved a number of rankings that accessed the employment prospects of graduates. In QS’s 2019 graduate employability ranking, the university was ranked 301–500 in the world, and 10–17 in Canada.

    Academic Programs

    The university offers a number of program options for you to design your own undergraduate degree – majors, minors, and certificates can be curated to create an experience that is truly unique to you. Master’s and doctoral degrees are also available in all eight of ou faculties.
