European Countries with Low Living Cost for International Students

From experience and research, many international students would like to study in a country that has low cost of living, so they won’t have spend much money while studying. Today’s article will focus on three countries in Europe with living cost ranging from $200 to $400 per month. The countries are; Ukraine, Russia, Poland. Ukraine first!

Ukraine

Ukraine is a beautiful country located in Eastern Europe, with a breathtaking area of 603,628 km², making Ukraine the largest country within the continent of Europe. Please note that the cost of living in this country is very low and affordable for international students. It is estimated at $200 to $250 a month to cover expenses such as food, accommodation, books, travels while studying in Ukraine etc.

Russia

Did you know that Russia is the world’s largest nation and borders both Europe and Asia! It has a beautiful landscape that stretches from tundra forests to subtropical beaches. It is very famous for acclaimed novelists Tolstoy and Dostoevsky, plus the Bolshoi and Mariinsky ballet companies. Please note that the cost of living in Russia is one of the lowest in Europe for international students wishing to study in the republic. From experience and research, the cost of living in Russia is put at $300 to $400 per month. This amount should cover the cost of food, accommodation, travels, cinemas, books etc. Here’s the summarized breakdown:

  • Hostel accommodation cost $100 to $350 per year
  • A decent three-course meal cost about $20 per person
  • A 5L glass of beer costs on average $2.
  • ticket to an English-language cinema costs $10
  • Bus, tram and trolleybus tickets cost 10 – 50 cents (for one journey, irrespective of length)
  • A $20 card lasts almost 2 hours when calling Europe and America from Russia

 Poland

Poland is an eastern European country on the Baltic Sea and greatly known for its medieval architecture, Jewish heritage and hearty cuisine. In the city of Krakow, 14th-century Wawel Castle rises above the medieval Old Town, home to Cloth Hall, a Renaissance trading post in Rynek Glówny (market square). Poland is a cheap country to live and study when compared with other European countries. The average cost of living for students is €250 – €400 per month. Here’s the breakdown:

  • Rent in a shared flat (or dormitory) cost €80-€150 per month
  • Food cost about €100-€150
  • Transportation (in big cities) cost €15-€20
  • Telephone/mobile, internet, TV cost €20-€30
  • Study materials cost €30-€50
